The S.T.A.B.L.E Program

Presented by Terrie Lockridge, MSN, RNC

STABLE is a nationally acclaimed curriculum that was designed for healthcare providers in a wide variety of settings.  This full day educational program provides general guidelines for the assessment and stabilization of sick infants during the post-resuscitation and pre-transport period.  This course is a "must do" for those who care for newborns in mother-baby or pediatric units, special care nurseries, and/or emergency rooms.  Novices enjoy the clear presentation of complex material, while experts appreciate the opportunity for review.

Straight to the Heart: Basics of Cardiac Care for the Neonatal Nurse

Presented by Terrie Lockridge, MSN, RNC

Do you need a cardiology review while preparing for your certification exam, or does caring for a newborn with congenital heart disease (CHD) simply give you palpitations?  Either way, this session is for you!  We will review normal cardiac anatomy and physiology, and focus on various CHD that present during the neonatal period.  We will brush up on basic EKG interpretation so that common arrhythmias seen in the nursery can be more easily recognized and dealt with.  Physical assessment and clinical management of newborns with CHD will be discussed, with a review of stabilization tactics and preparation for possible transport.  A course syllabus will be included in the tuition, and the STABLE Cardiac Module (available at www.stableprogram.org) is recommended as an optional reference.

Course runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Neonatal Neuroprotection: Best Practice for Best Outcomes

Presented by Terrie Lockridge, MSN, RNC

Early birth disrupts the third trimester, a period of intense growth and development for the central nervous system.  This delicate process continues  throughout the NICU stay, placing neonatal nurses in a unique position to shape eventual neurodevelopmental outcomes. This session will focus upon what has often been described as "developmentally supportive care", now recognized to be "neuroprotective care" because these interventions are known to protect the developing brain, facilitating normal development and minimizing disability.  Specific caregiving strategies will be discussed, applying a practical approach to a complex topic.  We will conclude with a look at selective and whole body cooling, neuroprotective therapies aimed towards term infants who have experienced perinatal depression.  A course syllabus will be included in the tuition, as well as a current bibliography.
Course runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
